James Remar - His greatest role?

Among James Remar fans like myself a never-ending debate rages: what is James Remar's greatest role?

It usually boils down to two choices:

Albert Ganz, the maniacal escaped convict from 48 Hours...?

Or Rayden, the unnaturally pink martial arts wise man from Mortal Kombat: Annhilation...?

You make the call. What is James Remar's ultimate performance, his greatest role?

  1. James Remar's greatest role is always the last one before his next one.

  2. As the C.O. in "Renaissance Man" (1994).

  3. I think you're asking about his best "non-Ajax" role.

Which is as Dick Wright on Sex and the City. He turned Samantha into a popsicle.

  4. You can't think of 48 Hours without thinking of Nick Nolte shouting, "Gantz!"

    So, Gantz.

  5. I think one of his greatest roles has to be in "Tales from the Darkside: The Movie." He gets to bump nasties with Rae Dawn Chong, the lucky git.

  6. How about Quill from "The Phantom?"

    Smash Evil!

  7. Dude was in Judge Dredd. He told Rob Schneider's character to be afraid of him instead of Dredd, and for the entire film you can see the terror in Schneider's eyes.

According to IMDb, James Remar was originally cast as Hicks in Aliens, but had to be replaced early in the filming. I'm guessing it was because a Remar utterance of "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure" would cause the universe (or possibly Dave's pants) to explode in an apocalyptic burst of awesomeness.

I don't know if Rayden is his best role, but it's the one I like best. Next to Ajax, of course.

    "Smash Evil!"

It was actually "Slam Evil", which is even more hilarious.

I hate Mortal Kombat Annihilation for many nerdfan-related reasons, but one of it's main highlights is James Remar as a thunder god.

I'd pick Ganz since that's the role where he was a great part of a great movie.

I believe is greatest role was 48hrs. He is the sweetest man out there! I have had the pleasure to meet James in the early 80's he did a movie with my dad called the windwalker. What a wonderful human being and oh so talented. My dad passed away a year after making this movie and James as always so concerned with us kids.. I will never forget his kindness....
