I'm going to take a wee break from Dave's Long Box to work on a top secret project. I'm about halfway through writing this unnamed project and unless I finish it quickly certain people in California will send astronauts to kill me, just like the zero-G assassination scene in Star Trek VI. Nobody wants that, including myself.
In lieu of actual quality content, I'm going to go with my usual half-assed modus operandi and just post a bunch of sketches and crap.
Among other things, I am a big military history geek. Years ago I drew an illustrated guide to the North Africa campaign in WWII - apparently I had nothing better to do at the time. Here, then are some pages from that guide instead of the comic book goodness that you came here for.
Never fear! I shall return from hiatus ASAP.

Oh Dave,
Please say that this won't be like the last Hiatus Week...oh wait, wasn't that more like Hiatus Fortnight-and-a-half?
I mean, your sketches are great and all, but we so desperately need you to continue to poke fun at crummy comics!
Come back soon.
These are awesome. Can't wait to see more. One question, though. The German word for sandstorm- is it 'Ghibli' or 'Ghiblu'?
I love Hiatus Week! Raa-haa! Syrup!
Whoops, I meant to say "Ghibu".
Well, they didn't call Rommel "The Desert Fox" just because of his sweet, sweet ass!
Dave,
It seems youve created a beast. And now that beast demands comic reviews at all hours. Thats the price of fame my friend.
Good work by the way!

As I understand it, the Germans and Italians called it "ghibli" which is based on an Arabic word. The British used the Arabic word "khamsin" which means "wind of 50 days."
Wait! I'm on hiatus! Damn it! I'm not here, ignore this.
Hey, you made me learn something! That's not what I came here for! Screw you, man!
I happen to like hiatus week and all of the airwolf sketches* that ensue.
*Crawlin with krauts--another alliteration. Say, I just learned hisory and grammar all in the same post!
Just when I thought Mr Campbell couldn't get more Airwolf, he busts out WW2 sketches. I'm starting to wonder if Dave is a mirror-universe image of me, since our interests match up so well. The difference, of course, being that his version of me got all the writing and drawing talent. You mirror universe bastard!
I am kind off excited for hiatus week. I think that as a rookie "Dave's Long Box" fan I need to spend some nights crying myself to sleep over the lack of Dave. Tough love.
I hope this isn't another Haitus Season like last time was.
Dood, you should collect your North Africa campaign cartoons and sell them. I bought the graphic novelization of the 9/11 Commission Report, and that isn't nearly as funny as your sketches.
BREVITY...BATTLEAXE...CRUSADER.
Good times, good times.
Rommel you magnificent bastard! I read your book!
Y'know, if you've done a bunch of comics about North Africa during WWII, I wouldn't mind seeing a review of a Battler Britton comic...
Have you ever read The Cartoon History of the Universe? Your approach is similar to Larry Gonnick's, in a good way (and I am not suggesting you're ripping him off).
