Return of The King, baby!

...and we're back.

Sorry about the lack of blogage recently, but we welcomed a new addition to our family last week, a strapping 10.1 lb baby girl named Mira. Now I have three girls (two daughters, one wife) to love and take care of and all that, and I'm as happy as I am tired - which is quite a bit.

10.1 lbs. Do you know how heavy that is? That's like a bowling ball, or a sack of potatoes, or a big bag of flour, or... or a 10 lb weight. My wife did the whole thing completely natural - no meds, just sheer Amazon power. She was amazing, the whole thing was amazing. I couldn't do what she did. Imagine a 10.1 lb bowling ball coming out of your vagina. Well, not your vagina, my wife's vagina. On second thought, let's skip the whole imagining thing.

Anyway, I'm a very proud and happy daddy. Thank you for your patience - we will resume our normal glib, trite blogging shortly. As usual I found the comments from readers hilarious.

Here's me and Mira, who if she could speak would be saying something like, "Get that damn camera out of my face!" Except she wouldn't say "damn." That's like swearing and stuff.

Sadly, in my absence from work the Yard-o-Beef died. The mold was too much for it and my co-workers. Hopefully somebody took pictures...

Great. Now the hip cool thing in comics blogger spouse-and-spousal-equivalent circles will be to push an enormous baby out of the lady parts. Like I don't have enough problems already.

We here @ the Casa de Maison de Beaucoup are tickled for you. Mazel tov!

  6. Dave,

On behalf of the 2 Guys Buying Comics, congratulations!

(We here at 2 Guys also have wives and children, so yes, Virginia, you can be a comic geek and have a fulfilling life.)

Mira's a cutie! You have multiple children now, which also means that you will never, ever have any money ever again until you die.

    Many congratulations Dave!

Two daughters and a wife? Hope you like Lifetime. When you need an ESPN fix, come visit me and my four boys.

    Okay, first of all, "ow."

    Second, congratulations!

    Third, "ow."

Fourth, 10.1 pounds? I'm trying not to imagine things (per your instructions) but it would appear that somebody's reproductive organs were exposed to gamma radiation.

Fifth, your wife is my new hero. Ow.

  10. Congratulations, Mr Longbox. Three women in your house, huh? May I suggest you stop buying comics and start buying bathrooms... In two weeks or so, we will be expecting our own happy event, though, for my wife's sake, hopefully not such a large one.

    Congratulations!

My friend is actually dating a girl named Mira, although I'm sure your daughter will end up seeing a guy of much higher levels of class when she starts dating about 10 years after you die.

  12. Congrats, Dave!

    Even more congrats, Dave's wife!

And hello, Mira! You have an Amazon mommy and a nerd-blogger daddy, so I am sure you'll be a super-hero of some kind!

Congratulations from a fellow mid-thirties guy with two daughters (and another baby on the way)! You may be interested to know that my nearly two year old daughter's favorite toy is the Marvel Legends Green variant Hulk. NOthing warms the heart more than a two year old girl hugging a hulk.

  14. 10 pounds? When my daughter was born she weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces and all the nurses referred to her as "the big baby." I can't imagine tacking on another pound and a half.

Congrats on the new addition to the Longbox family! Yay!

  20. Maybe we should have named the baby Poundcakes instead.

Glad to hear that all is well. Congratulations!

That was false advertising. I assumed from the title that Jack Kirby came back from the dead, but all that happened was you had a baby daughter. Although maybe she is the reincarnation of Jack Kirby. Considering that you were her father, I'm not surprised. Anyway, contradulations.

  22. If that baby knew how lucky she was to have a father who will introduce to her the aweome-ness of Suicide Squad and Walt Simonson's Thor...

    Congratualtions, Dave.

  26. I don't get the comics connection with the name Mira...don't tell me you're getting outvoted already...

And congrats, mang...you've taken a step that my wife and I are too gutless to do ourselves...and you've done it twice...mad props to you, Mr. Longbox...

  36. Dave,

Congratulations! Just think - in 20 some years, you will either hear her say,

"I'd like to thank my father for encouraging me to work towards the Nobel Prize"

    or

"Do you want fries with that, Dad?"

    Just kidding, but congratulations nonetheless.

    Congrats, Dave.

10 lbs. is a whole lotta baby!

How soon will it be until you show Mira your vast expanse of long boxes to say "One day, this will all be yours...and your sister's!"

    ReplyDelete
  38. Congratulations on the child.

Mira sounds suspicously like the name of Aquaman's ex-wife.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Congratulations, sir. I also have two daughters, and not only will you never have any money again, you will also never sleep again. More time to entertain us with posts!

My girls were 6 lbs. 7 oz. and 7 lbs. 5 oz. 10 pounds is gigantic. Your wife is a trooper, although crazy. And I see Mira is already embarrassed to be seen with you. Smart girl.

Congratulations Dave! I myself have two kids whom I love dearly and are immensely rewarding.
But they can get their own damn comics.

"Far beyond the fields we know, the womb of an Amazon woman...EXPLODES! And a nascent soul of Heaven is left behind...but not left alone.

"Mark well this figure and listen. Listen. Can you hear it? The wind is rising. The sound of thunder reverberates throughout a billion billion worlds.

    "MIRA!"

From me and the muse of Walt Simonson, congratulations Dave! May yon babe long ride the winds of Asgard and never fall prey to the schemes of foul Loki.

Congratulations to you and your wife, take care of each other and remember:

Hey, Congraturation, Dave. A father is you!

She looks great- but is Mira flashing gang signs in that picture??

    ReplyDelete
  55. Congrats to the whole family!

    ReplyDelete
  56. First, congrats to Dave and Mrs. Dave on the sequel!

Second, I think the size of the baby (10.1 pounds?!?), the fact it was done natural (??!?!!!), and an offhand joke in the Mr. Miracle comic post means Mrs. Dave is actually Big Barda.

Third, as a birth gift for Mira/apology for saying your wife may be a 7 foot tall, 250 lb, spaceship-bench-pressing Amazon warrior woman (unless this is, in fact, true), I offer this page, where an enterprising fellow saw a Yard-o-Beef and thought to himself, "You know, I could put fins and a model rocket engine in that sucker and launch it into orbit." It's that kind of thinking that makes America great!

Word verification: "coherr." I don't even KNOW her!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Congrats!

When my youngest was born, my wife broke down and used drugs to get through it. Granted, it was a C-Section, but still, she could have sucked it up and toughed it out.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Congratulations to you and your wife.

10.1 lbs?!?! My son was born 9.7 lbs, and I thought he was big! Is it too late to rename her Giganta? How about She-Hulk?

    Congratulations!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous10:30 AM

With "Return of the King", I thought you would name her Galadriel or Arwen, but I see my geekdar has been set off in error. (And not for the first time either)
    Congrats!

  62. Well, as my grammy used to say, every time a Yard O'Beef dies, an angel is born on earth.

What? What? Like your grammy never said anything wacky?

    Congrats, Dave!
